I’m confused by the references to the Romans “foraging for corn” on Britannia. Wasn’t corn brought from the Americas at a much later date?
I addressed it in a later episode. I was using Corn in the European way rather than the American way. Corn during this period simply means Grain. Sorry for the confusion there.
Maize is the actual term for the domesticated food crop from the Americas. Corn has taken on a new meaning in vernacular English.
